I am a high school student and a new photographer. I love to take pictures of nature; especially closeups. I also make videos -- you can find my YouTube channel at youtube.com/hathornchase -- so I feel a strong connection to cameras, regardless of what I’m doing with them. I started taking pictures when I was very young. I remember specifically, when I was about seven, being asked to take pictures of a wedding. As usual, I spent less time taking pictures of the bride and groom and more time taking closeups of the flowers. Not much has changed; if you were to look at my work now, you would see very few pictures of people and many more of objects, animals, and nature.
I don’t often use a camera to take my pictures, though I am trying to learn how to use one better. When I go for walks, I will almost always have my phone in my pocket -- I even have a macro lens for it -- and I use that to take photos. When I actually start taking the pictures, thoughts about rules and elements of design don’t cross my mind. I get into the world of photography and it just happens. I want audiences, when looking at my work, to feel the almost raw and wild aspects of it, along with the more tame and beautiful elements of photography.
